Does my home need rewiring?

It is recommended that an electrical inspection should be carried out on your home by a registered electrician at least every 10 years. If its been more than 10 years it’s quite possible your electrics should have an update to keep in line with current electrical regulations, and more importantly so you and your family are safe and protected.  

Getting your house rewired is quite a big project and will not be cheap. So, before this its recommended you have an initial inspection where your electrician will advise whether you need a full rewire, partial rewire or maybe even just some electrical maintenance. So, what should you know?

EICR:

Firstly, it’s recommended you have an EICR performed on your home to determine whether you need a full rewire. This will ensure your electrician knows exactly what state your current electrics are in and how they can be made safer.  

Rewiring your home is a big job, it can take a while and it’s not cheap. Rewiring a house needs to be done properly, if an electrician is saying they’ll get it done by the time your back from shopping…RUN! As a rough guide it should take anywhere from 2 to 10 days. This of course depends on a few factors like the size of your home. It’s also important to know that a lived-in rewire will take longer as your electricians will have to keep moving things, taking furniture out and tidy up at the end of day, this will add extra time to complete the job.  

Rewiring your house can be quite disruptive, if you’re in the process of renovations, this is the perfect time to have a rewire. This will take off significant time as the property will be in a much better position for us to work in.  

Now even though it could be a lengthy job, it’s still worth hiring a qualified team of electricians to complete the rewire, we will get the job done a lot quicker and of course all the work will be completed to a very high standard. A well done rewire should last you a very long time and you shouldn’t have to worry about it again for at least 20 odd years!

The cost – it’s hard to give an exact figure of the cost of a rewire as there are so many factors to consider.
